Written for advanced undergraduates and beginning graduate students, this exceptionally clear text treats both the engineering and mathematical aspects of elasticity. It is especially useful because it offers the theory of linear elasticity from three standpoints: engineering, Cartesian tensor, and vector-dyadic. In this way the student receives a more complete picture and a more thorough understanding of engineering elasticity. Prerequisites are a working knowledge of statics and strength of materials plus calculus and vector analysis. The first part of the book treats the theory of elasticity by the most elementary approach, emphasizing physical significance and using engineering notations. It gives engineering students a clear, basic understanding of linear elasticity. The latter part of the text, after Cartesian tensor and dyadic notations are introduced, gives a more general treatment of elasticity. Most of the equations of the earlier chapters are repeated in Cartesian tensor notation and again in vector-dyadic notation. By having access to this threefold approach in one book, beginning students will benefit from cross-referencing, which makes the learning process easier.
Another helpful feature of this text is the charts and tables showing the logical relationships among the equations -- especially useful in elasticity, where the mathematical chain from definition and concept to application is often long. Understanding of the theory is further reinforced by extensive problems at the end of each chapter.

Not worth the paper it’s printed on.
Format: Paperback
I can’t say that I was expecting such a slim volume on 10,000 years of Chinese culture to be a work of rigorous scholarship, but I also wasn’t expecting it to be quite *this* dreadful. It is badly written to the point of being unreadable, and it is clear that no one thought to edit the document before publication. I made it about twenty pages in before I had to put it down. The entire thing reads like an Anthropology 101 term paper written by a first semester college freshman who hasn’t quite figured out how to back up claims with evidence yet.

It all makes sense now
Format: Kindle
This book covers Ancient Chinese History, Starting from the Settlement at the Yellow River through the Xia, Shang, Zhou, and Qin Dynasties to the Han Dynasty. This should ring a bell for some folks as this is the period around the Yellow River shows the early development of man in this region.
Ancient Chinese history is a tapestry of remarkable achievements, cultural developments, and political transitions that unfolded over thousands of years. It all began with the settlement at the Yellow River, where early agricultural communities emerged around 5000 BCE. This period witnessed the gradual transition from a hunter-gatherer lifestyle to settled farming communities, marking the foundation of Chinese civilization.
From this fertile ground, the Xia Dynasty rose in the 21st century BCE, establishing the first recorded dynasty in Chinese history. Although little written evidence remains, the Xia period laid the groundwork for future dynasties, fostering advancements in agriculture, irrigation systems, and early forms of government.
The subsequent Shang Dynasty (16th–11th century BCE) witnessed great cultural achievements, including the development of a complex writing system and the creation of magnificent bronze artworks. It was during this era that the concept of the Mandate of Heaven emerged, which stated that rulers' legitimacy depended on their ability to govern effectively.
Following the fall of the Shang Dynasty, the Zhou Dynasty (1046–256 BCE) emerged and introduced the feudal system, characterized by a decentralized government. This era saw the flourishing of philosophy, with notable thinkers like Confucius and Laozi influencing Chinese thought for centuries to come.
The Qin Dynasty (221–206 BCE) unified China under the rule of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, bringing about remarkable political and administrative reforms. It standardized currency, measurements, and writing systems, and constructed the Great Wall of China. Although short-lived, the Qin Dynasty paved the way for the subsequent Han Dynasty.
The Han Dynasty (206 BCE–220 CE) was a period of significant cultural and technological advancements. It expanded the empire's territorial reach, established the Silk Road, and embraced Confucianism as the official ideology. The Han Dynasty left a lasting legacy, shaping the Chinese state and society for centuries.
Through these pivotal dynasties, Ancient Chinese history witnessed the development of a rich and enduring civilization, with contributions that continue to influence the world today.
